S. Fischer Verlag
With its impressive range of world literature and nonfiction works, S. Fischer is the German market leader for high-quality trade publications.
"I was eleven years old when he (Samuel Fischer) founded his publishing company in Berlin. Ten years later it was every young writer's dream to have a book published by S. Fischer", Thomas Mann once remarked as he looked back over his writing career.
Late in the summer of 1886 Samuel Fischer founded the eponymous publishing company in Berlin that was soon to become a leading forum for contemporary literature. Authors such as Thomas Mann, Franz Kafka and Stefan Zweig characterise this publishing house as one that stands for classic German modernity. A further focus point of S. Fischer’s program is German and international contemporary literature. The works from Nobel Prize winners such as Kenzaburo Oe and J. M. Coetzee are prominent cornerstones within this program; not to forget the equally successful and superior nonfiction book sector. The books from S. Fischer reflect the development of modern literature as well as the course of German history up to modern day times.
Ms. Monika Schoeller has been a publisher at S. Fischer since 1974.
Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag (Fischer Paperbacks)
In 1952 Gottfried Bermann Fischer founded the Fischer Library, which later led to the formation of the Fischer Paperback Book Publishing Company. S. Fischer offers an exceptional platform of books ranging from sophisticated literary books and entertaining genre to general and scientific reference and nonfiction books. Important building blocks within the program include series such as The Nazi Era (the so-called "Black Series" is the largest collection worldwide of fundamental texts used for the study of Nazi Germany) and the Fischer World Almanac.
Krueger Verlag
Krueger has been a part of S. Fischer since 1976. Krueger is well-known for its success in the areas of contemporary fiction, historical novels, suspense literature and popular nonfiction books and has a large feminine audience. Some of its world bestseller writers include Barbara Wood and Marianne Fredriksson. The authors Susanne Froehlich and Cecilia Ahern also brought spectacular bestseller books to the market last year for Krueger.
Scherz Verlag
The Bernese bookseller, Alfred Scherz, founded Scherz Publishing Company in 1938 which has been a part of S. Fischer since 2003. Fiction has been traditionally dominated by suspense - the novels from the "Queen of Crime", Agatha Christie, have characterised the company’s platform for years. Alongside murder mystery and thriller books Scherz also offers historical novels, family and love stories, comedy books, unusual autobiographies and nonfiction literature covering actual topics within the company’s portfolio.
