Based in Berlin, AVE Gesellschaft fuer Fernsehproduktion mbH has been producing information programs and talk shows, high-quality entertainment and cultural programs, as well as reports, documentaries and features on politics, the arts, science and business since the mid-1980s. Its customers are public and private broadcasting stations. For many years the company has been living proof that quality and TV ratings don't have to be mutually exclusive. In a tough market environment characterised by a concentration in the TV market and increasing in-house production activities by broadcasting companies, individual programs produced by AVE have managed to achieve outstanding coverage and a broad media response.

AVE’s own productions include the discussion series "Quergefragt" for SWR TV, as well as documentaries and reports for broadcasters such as ARTE, 3sat, ZDF and ARD and its subsidiaries. The AVE subsidiary Spektrum TV is one of the leading production companies for classical music, producing profiles of young musicians and children’s classical music programs primarily for clients such as ARTE, 3sat and the ARD network. Macroscope Film, a 50 percent AVE holding, produces arts programs and biographies, mainly for the cultural channel ARTE.

Since early 2007, AVE has been steadily expanding its online activities. Its site watchberlin.de is an Internet platform offering editorial video clips, a project that is being extended and expanded step by step. AVE sees its challenge for the coming years in the linking of classic television production with the developments on the Web. This goal is already being practically realised with an AVE daily youth program on Bavarian broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk, which can be seen on the television channel as well as on the Internet.
